Such a lovely word and too rarely heard nowadays, mil-li-ner-y rolls off the tongue with all the elegance and promise of twen-ty e-lev-en. These cocktail hats are the handcrafts of Jessica Amber Jones and may be seen in person at RENÉ RENÉ or the etsy shop Mi Amore. Their feathers and veil netting become the crowning touch for any modern day flapper.

Un Peu d'Histoire

A recent visit to Chattanooga yielded the two previous postings and this diptych revival, courtesy of the AVA media lab scanner. Yes, the top bike was my daily transportation in the streets of Richmond and is shown to advantage here at the Virginia Museum after its spring cleaning of fresh bar tape and crank bearings, all done by me. Don't look for that setting today: the Lawrence Halprin-designed sculpture garden, believed to have been the only one in North America, is now a parking garage for the museum. Even the guys who looked after it were an extraordinary crew of scenesters and musicians known as the avant gardeners. 'Tis poingnant to think that their spiritual descendants could be carrying on that tradition in a town that so reveres its history. The second image of a derelict bicycle, imprisoned in foliage and rain drops, chimes nicely with the sweep of motion suggested by those exquisite lillies.

The ladies rocked some choice items from their inventory to a cheerful, bohemian vibe underpinned by classic elegance.

A Good Vintage

While contemporary commuters often sit in gridlocked traffic, a well preserved, 1978 Schwinn Suburban promised a healthier alternative that he realises today, thanks to Craig's List.

Part of greeting stylish strangers often involves sharing photos of recent encounters with others who have appeared on this blog. These folks turned the tables on me with their costume party images from the wee hours of this very morning. Stay tuned for news of future soirées they are planning.

For the sake of a tiny hole, Urban Outfitters sold her this cardigan for five dollars. The suede handbag still contains bits of London. A thrifty shopper, she told me, "Five dollar boots and a fifty dollar dress, that's how I do it."

What a glorious Sunday afternoon this was for Atlanta. A nip in the air, autumn color and the kindest of difused light showed these city cyclists to advantage. Anyone looking for an awesome vintage vélo would do well to investigate local postings on Craig's List.
